It was a great start to the pre-season on the weekend for our current Lady Senators.
It was also all about our Alumni as we counted the connections with women’s hockey at Clarkson University and the Ottawa Lady Senators Hockey Club.
Alums Erica Howe (2010), Jamie Lee Rattray (2010), Amanda Titus (2014) and Katelyn Fournier (2014) all won the NCAA National Championships with the Clarkson women’s hockey program, were leaders on the team and winners of multiple team awards.
Jamie Lee Rattray has a banner in the Cheel Center for her Olympic achievements and several plaques that celebrate her success as a Patty Kazmaier Award winner, a two time All American and multiple team awards.
Cathy Bureau is well respected in the Ottawa area as a builder of the game of female hockey, but maybe most familiar to our U22AA players as “our scorekeeper Cathy”. Cathy Champion-Demers-Bureau is honoured at Clarkson in the Athletic Hall of Fame for her outstanding achievements as a women’s hockey and lacrosse player in the 1980s.
At the rink we bumped into former Lady Sen Claire Tyo (2020) who was coaching with the 14U River Queens from her hometown, Massena NY. Thank you to Claire who agreed to come and meet U22AA, sharing with the team her experience as a NCAA Div I athlete with the Providence Friars.
Our recent graduates also dropped in - Kassidy Lawrence (2023), Jill Hennessy (2023) and Mackenzie Clarke (2023) who begin their NCAA Div I careers this Fall with Clarkson division rivals St. Lawrence. Best of luck!
Thank You to our GM, and Clarkson Men’s Hockey Alum, Dana Mulvihill for the opportunity to visit the university.
There was lots to inspire our young players as they prepare for the upcoming season!
